The future of the boys rep program for Nelson Youth Soccer should be coming up roses sooner than later. That’s all because of the focus NYS is taking with the U12 program.“The focus at this age is development,” said mentor/coach, Jamie Spendlove.“We don’t want to cut any kids and perhaps discourage them from pursuing rep soccer. “A kid that might just miss out on the team at this age, if there were cuts, might be a star player in a couple years, with the extra development.”Spendlove said NYS would enter two teams for every tournament on the schedule — the strongest players spread onto both teams.“We’re making them balanced, but not as strong as if we entered just one team,” Spendlove explained. “This weekend in Kamloops was no different where we entered two, balanced teams in the tournament.” The results were somewhat varied as a result, but overall, some strong performances were delivered from both teams and all the boys. “I was very pleased with the strong play and leadership shown by our second year players that were put on both teams,” said coach Kerry Dyck.“They lead the way. But at the same time, several of our new players, both U12 and U11, stepped up at times with great performances as well. I found that very encouraging. “You could see the progress even through the weekend.”The first Nelson team finished the weekend with one win and three losses. However, in two of the three losses, the team played very well, and with a bit of luck, could have come away with a tie or even a win. The second Nelson team finished the weekend with two ties and two losses. Again, they played very well in three of the games and could have won both of the games they tied and even in one of the losses.Leading the way for Nelson from both teams with goals was Ezra Foy with four, followed by Angus Paterson with two and singles by Keanu Tromans, Jesse Thurston, Jesse Harold, Dylan Luscombe, Bradey Sookero, Max Spielman, Josh Schacher, Thomas Baxter and Jaden Dyck. Jesse Thurston, Max Spielman, Sam Foy, Jaden Dyck and Bradey Sookero won game MVP honours. The U11/U12 Selects’ next action is June 2-3 in Kalispell Montana.
NEW YORK — All-Stars from all over the world are ticketed for Minneapolis, where hometown favorite Joe Mauer will be conspicuously absent from the lineup.Still new to Major League Baseball, Masahiro Tanaka, Jose Abreu and Yasiel Puig are just a few of the foreign-born players almost certain to get selected for the July 15 showcase.All-Star rosters will be announced on July 6, and the game at Target Field should have a distinctive international flavor.“It tells you something about how hard they’ve worked outside of our game to get to this point,” New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi said.“It tells you the level of baseball around the world and how good it is and the competition — and how hungry they are, in a sense, to be one of the best. Not just being happy with maybe signing a big deal and saying, that’s enough. They want to continue to play and make a name for themselves. So it’s pretty special what these guys have done.”Yu Darvish (Japan), Koji Uehara (Japan), Yoenis Cespedes (Cuba) and Julio Teheran (Colombia) also have impressive stats, putting them in position to join familiar stars such as Miguel Cabrera (Venezuela) and Robinson Cano (Dominican Republic) from more common talent pools outside the United States. And some of these players, such as Tanaka (Japan) and Abreu (Cuba), have been here only for a matter of months.“It’s not surprising that some of these guys are able to play at such a high level right when they come over here, because they’re just that good,” said Tampa Bay infielder Ben Zobrist, a two-time All-Star.“You think of a rookie generally as a young kid that is getting his first experience on a very tough stage, and these guys have already played on high international stages — even if it wasn’t the major leagues. And they’re very polished players.”Derek Jeter is on track for one last trip in his final season; the Yankees captain led American League shortstops in fan balloting when the latest update was released this week. But one big name now sure to be missing is Mauer, the three-time batting champion from St. Paul, Minnesota.Tabbed as an All-Star ambassador to help MLB promote the game, Mauer was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 3 with a strained muscle on his right side. And while it’s an unfortunate injury for the Twins, it does save MLB and American League Manager John Farrell from the Boston Red Sox the trouble of dealing with a delicate situation.Despite a recent hitting streak, Mauer is having his worst season at the plate. And since he moved from catcher to first base this year to protect his health, he now plays the same position as several of the AL’s best hitters. To put him on the roster only because the game is in Minneapolis would have been awkward — and it would have cost some other deserving player a spot. However, it also would have felt strange for the $184 million face of the Twins to be left out of the festivities. Especially for Minnesota fans.Mauer’s injury eliminates all that. The six-time All-Star and 2009 AL MVP can play some sort of role in the pregame ceremonies and soak in a well-earned ovation without it feeling forced. “It’s tough to describe,” Mauer said. “I definitely wanted to be a part of this as a player, but I guess that’s out of the question now.”Other choices remain difficult, even for fans and players who vote.Cabrera or Abreu at first base for the American League? Adam Wainwright or Clayton Kershaw on the mound for the NL? And all five members of the Dodgers rotation have their own worthy credentials.“I’m looking forward to being a part of the game, but I’m not necessarily looking forward to the fact there’s going to be some guys left out that have had All-Star-caliber seasons,” said St. Louis Cardinals skipper Mike Matheny, who will manage the NL team and help choose his reserves. “You just look especially at the starting pitching, it’s just one guy right after another with very similar numbers.”There are 34 spots on each roster, and at least 13 go to pitchers. Plus, every club must be represented. So it certainly gets complicated. “I don’t anticipate making everyone happy,” Farrell said.___By Mike Fitzpatrick. New Delhi: A Delhi court has ordered attachment of liquor baron Vijay Mallya’s properties in Bengaluru in a case relating to FERA violations. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sherawat issued fresh directions after the Bengaluru Police, through Enforcement Directorate’s special public prosecutor N K Matta and advocate Samvedna Verma, sought more time to execute its earlier order in this regard. The court directed the state police to attach the properties by July 10, the next date of hearing. Also Read – India gets first tranche of Swiss bank a/c details The Bengaluru Police had earlier informed the court that it had identified 159 properties belonging to Mallya, but had not been able to attach any of them. Mallya was declared a proclaimed offender by the court on January 4 last year for evading its summons in the case. The court had on May 8 last year directed the attachment of Mallya’s properties in the case through the Bengaluru Police commissioner and sought a report on it. It had declared Mallya a proclaimed offender for evading summons in a Foreign Exchange Management Act (FERA) violation case after noting that he had failed to appear despite repeated summonses. It had on April 12, 2017 issued an open-ended non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the liquor baron. Unlike a non-bailable warrant, an ‘open-ended NBW’ does not carry a time limit for execution.
Beijing: India on Monday raised the issue of blacklisting Pakistan-based terrorist Masood Azhar with China as Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale met Chinese State Councillor Wang Yi and told him that Beijing needed to be “sensitive” to New Delhi’s concerns. On a two-day China visit, Gokhale is understood to have made attempts to convince Wang Yi not to block a resolution to declare Azhar an international terrorist at a UN panel. China in the past has repeatedly blocked all such resolutions by India, the US, Britain and France by placing a “technical hold” on them at the UN 1267 sanctions committee. Also Read – India gets first tranche of Swiss bank a/c details This has soured China’s ties with India where Azhar is wanted for plotting deadly terror attacks. Azhar heads a Pakistani terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed that claimed responsibility for killing 40 killing CRPF personnel in a suicide bombing in Jammu and Kashmir in February. Last month, Beijing’s placed its latest “technical hold” on the US-sponsored resolution against Azhar, a move that India called “disappointing”. The US had slammed Beijing’s move, drafting and circulating its own draft resolution against Azhar at UN Security Council. Also Read – Tourists to be allowed in J&K from Thursday Gokhale’s visit comes at a time when Beijing is facing mounting international pressure to declare Azhar an international terrorist. According to sources, the issue of designation of Masood Azhar as an international terrorist was figured in Gokhale’s meet with Wang, who is also China’s Foreign Minister. In his opening remarks Gokhale said: “We will work together with the Chinese side to deepen mutual understanding, strengthen mutual trust to implements the decisions that are taken by the leaders and do it in a manner where we are sensitive to each other’s concerns,” Gokhale said while meeting Wang and Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou. Gokhale, who was also India’s former Ambassador to China, said both sides were working to implement what was agreed between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Wuhan summit last year. “It’s been a year since our leaders met in Wuhan and my colleagues, Vice (Foreign) Minister Kong Xuanyou and I have been following up on efforts to see that to implement the understandings that were reached at the meeting. “Last year, we had very brisk political exchanges including your visit to Delhi for the first high-level meeting between for people to people exchange was an important development. And my Minister (Foreign) looks forward to coming for the second meeting in China later this year,” he added. Wang stressed the need for India and China to step up strategic communication and cooperation. “China and India are two major countries and neighbours. They are also two emerging market countries and are each other’s emerging partners. “In this sense, it’s very important for the two countries to work together to increase strategic communications even the geopolitical trust and strategic cooperation on international and regional issues.” Gokhale’s visit also comes in the same week as Beijing holds the second edition of the Belt and Road forum, which New Delhi is highly likely to skip over the issue of sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is to be seen if India’s opposition to the Belt and Road forum will figure in the talks. India is likely to skip for the second straight year China’s Belt and Road forum, a mega event that Beijing claims will be attended by the heads of 37 countries and over 100 international organisations. The Belt and Road is a trillion-dollar project that aims to connect Asia, Africa and Europe through a network of highways, sea lanes and ports. India opposes its key artery, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as it cuts through the disputed part of Kashmir held by Islamabad. In 2017, India had boycotted the launch of the forum over the same issue. In a press conference on April 20, Wang appealed to India again to shed its inhibition on the CPEC, saying the project has nothing to do with the Kashmir issue. He said India joining the Belt and Road project will be a good choice for it.
Manchester United defender Phil Jones believes their clash with Tottenham will give them an indication of their current strength under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar SolskjaerThe Red Devils have won all five of their games since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho last month at Old Trafford. But Jones, who has started four times under the Norwegian, warns that Spurs will likely give them their toughest challenge yet on Sunday.“Spurs is a good test,” Jones told the club website.“We are in good form and have some momentum going. We have steadied the ship a bit.“We have not done anything yet, we have not achieved anything, but we need to keep it going. Possibly Spurs will be an indicator for us and how far we can go but it is a game we need to win.Liverpool legend Nicol slams Harry Maguire’s Man United form Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Steve Nicol believes Harry Maguire has made some “horrendous mistakes” recently, and has failed to find his best form since joining Manchester United.“They are in good form and doing well and we need to have a good week, train well and prepare for a tough game. Hopefully, the momentum can carry us on to win that match.”The 26-year-old insists Champions League football remains the target with United now just six points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea after four successive wins.“Of course we should be in the Champions League next season and that is the aim but we have done nothing yet. I know it is a cliche but it has to be game by game,” said Jones.“I don’t really want to think about the top four, or the Champions League or the FA Cup.“It has to be game by game. Tottenham is tough and we aim to see where we are after that.”Jones has made seven league appearances for United this season.

Imagine going somewhere and then getting vibes from that place. So much so that your inner self gives you messages which you then transform into poetry and with some help, create music out of it? Sounds confusing? Well, that is exactly what Keiko Koma has been doing around the globe with the help of pianist Idaki Shin. And all this for greater good. The aim? World peace. And they will do it again. This time in Purana Qila. India is a huge influence on both of them. ‘Everywhere in Japan you will find temples divided into many streams and variations of Buddhism. They are not just places of worship but also libraries and museums of old culture — most of them coming from India,’ said Shin with the help of a translator. This is their first visit to India after touring various countries across the world. Also Read – ‘Playing Jojo was emotionally exhausting’‘At Purana Qila, Koma has received a strong message from the earth. It is a vision of a circle of peace. The music (by Idaki Shin) will be spontaneous and a manifestation of energies that brought us to realise the concert,’ says Shin. Nothing has been composed beforehand so rehearsals for this is out of the question. Both Koma and Shin depend on improvisations on the spot. The instruments they will use include traditional drums, electric guitars, flute instruments, saxophones and more. Also Read – Leslie doing new comedy special with NetflixHow does Koma get this visions? ‘When she visits historic places in the midst of nature, she gets messages which are converted into poems. This is the tradition of the ancient Koguryo kingdom of which Koma is a descendant,’ said Koma with the help of a translator. And what is the consequence of the message? Does it have healing powers? ‘The messages manifest truth about our life. They may not have direct healing powers like medicine, but the power of truth is what works as the panacea. Truth is often not found in personal experiences. But without truth one cannot open up to future. Truth helps one overcome difficulties,’ she further explained. And how does Shin come up with the music thereafter? ‘There’s no structure or prefabricated idea. You need to tune oneself to others. The outcome of the performances can be hard and integral,’ says Shin. So what is in store for Delhi? ‘Each spectator will have his or her individual experiences. We don’t have any visible intention. It is what will be happening at Purana Qila,’ says Koma.So head to Purana Qila this Sunday if you are keen to watch some ancient magic unfold among the historical greens.DETAILAt: Purana Quila When: 2 December Timings: 6 pm onwards For Invites, Call: 08587900626
Yesterday, SAP announced that it is planning to acquire Qualtrics, that had been expected to go public this week, for a sum of $8 billion, in cash. Qualtrics is the global pioneer of the experience management (XM) software category that enables organizations to build a phenomenal employee culture and also to build iconic brands. SAP has secured financing in the amount of €7 billion to cover purchase price and acquisition-related costs, which the company said in a statement that is expected to close in the first half of 2019. Qualtrics would be SAP’s largest-ever purchase of a VC-backed enterprise software company, and the third-largest sale of any SaaS company. Post this acquisition the company will continue to be led by co-founder and CEO Ryan Smith and will retain its dual headquarters in Provo, Utah, and Seattle. SAP + Qualtrics: The benefits ahead SAP CEO, Bill McDermott said he was attracted to Qualtrics’ culture and its software’s ability to add customer sentiment and voice to the different applications SAP offers across its suite. Bringing together SAP’s experience data (X-Data) and Qualtrics’ Operational Data (O-Data) will help customers to better manage supply chains, networks, employees and core processes. McDermott, said “Together, SAP and Qualtrics represent a new paradigm, similar to market-making shifts in personal operating systems, smart devices and social networks. SAP already touches 77 percent of the world’s transactions. For Qualtrics, this introduces a dynamic new partner with the belief, passion and scale to bring experience management to millions of customers around the world.” SAP will enable Qualtrics to scale rapidly around the world with the help of SAP’s more than 413,000 customers and global sales force of around 15,000. “With this acquisition, Qualtrics expects full-year 2018 revenue to exceed US$400 million and projects a forward growth rate of greater than 40 percent, not including potential synergies of being part of SAP”, said SAP in their press release. Ryan Smith, CEO of Qualtrics, said “Our mission is to help organizations deliver the experiences that turn their customers into fanatics, employees into ambassadors, products into obsessions and brands into religions. Supported by a global team of over 95,000, SAP will help us scale faster and achieve our mission on a broader stage. This will put the XM Platform everywhere overnight. We could not be more excited to join forces with Bill and the SAP team in this once-in-a-generation opportunity to power the experience economy.” To know more about this news in detail, head over to SAP official website.
