RELIEF AS TWO OTHERS AVOID INJURY IN BULL ATTACK WHICH KILLED FARMER

(North West Newspix)Two other men avoided serious injury in the gruesome bull attack which left a farmer dead and his twin brother injured on a Inishowen farm, it has emerged.The animal killed well-known farmer Patrick Dowds and then attacked his brother George, both 65, at their farm at Toulette, Burt on Wednesday.It has now emerged that two other farmers out searching for Patrickwere completely ignored by the bull when they went into a field during the search. However seconds later George was attacked and his life saved when thetwo men managed to pull him to safety.The surviving brother was released from hospital late on Wednesday night.He suffered a number of cuts and bruises and is sore but has notsuffered any long term injuries.Although there is no reason why the bull attacked the brothers, thereis speculation the bull was irritated after being dosed by thebrothers just two days previously. Local farmers speculated this could have been the cause of the attackafter the bull completely ignored the other two farmers taking part inthe search for Patrick.The bull, which was being rented from another farmer, has since been destroyed.Tributes have been flowing in for Patrick who was described as a“model farmer who lived for the land.”A close family source said Patrick was the more outgoing of the twobrothers who always enjoyed a joke and some fun.“George was a little quieter but Patrick was always up for the craic.The entire community is just devastated. “Himself and George never married and they lived together and farmedtogether for any years.“Patrick would have laboured away in England but is home for manyyears now and himself and George just lived of the land and for theiranimals.“Although they never married they were father figures to a lot ofnephews and nieces who will miss Patrick dearly.”The tragedy first unfolded on Wednesday lunchtime when George went tolook for his brother who had not returned since around 8am when he hadgone to feed some animals on their farm close to the An Grianan ofAileach historical site. George called to a number of houses of fellow farmers who joined himin the search for Patrick.The two farmers entered the field containing the bull and discoveredPatrick’s body at the back of the holding.But when George entered the field, the bull mad a charge at him andknocked him to the ground.
