FRISCO, Texas – Houston Baptist guard Ian DuBose is the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The Southland’s leading scorer (19.1 PPG) averaged 32 points and 6.5 rebounds across two games in a 1-1 week for the Huskies (1-11, 1-2 SLC). HBU edged Central Arkansas 111-107 in overtime on Thursday before suffering a 106-79 loss to Northwestern State on Saturday. The Huskies begin a three-game homestand against Lamar at 7 p.m. Saturday. He carried that momentum into Saturday’s game against the Demons, pouring in 20 points in just 23 minutes on the court on 5-of-10 shooting. DuBose’s last back-to-back games with 20 or more points came nearly a year ago to the date, when he was named the league’s Player of the Week after scoring 33 and 22 on January 2 and 5, respectively. With a 44-point output in the win over the Bears, DuBose posted the most points by a Southland student-athlete since Lamar’s Mike James dropped 52 on Jan. 4, 2011. DuBose also grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds to mark his third double-double on the season with 20 or more points.
