SUPER DONEGAL DEFEAT DERRY AND ADVANCE TO ULSTER SFC SEMI-FINAL

first_imgDonegal have booked their place in the semi-final of the Ulster SFC following a fantastic win over local rivals Derry. Paddy McBrearty on the attack for Donegal during their fantastic Ulster SFC quarter-final win over Derry.In a poor first-half, Donegal had struggled, and went in at the interval trailing by two points.However, Donegal were a different animal in the second-half, and took the game to Derry. A couple of trademark wonder scores from Michael Murphy eased Donegal into the lead.But the turning point in this encounter was the goal Donegal got from the rampaging Leo McLoone.A stunning move, involving Frank McGlynn, was finished off expertly by the Glenties man who enjoyed a fine game.Donegal should have had a second goal, but McBrearty blazed over when he was in a great position. Derry rallied and reeled off four scores on the trot, to make it a two point game.They had opportunities to to reel Donegal in, but just couldn’t find their range.Leo McLoone capped of a super individual display by getting the all-important insurance score in the final minute of the match.Jim McGuinness and his team have been written off by many, but this performance, particularly in the second-half,  Donegal showed glimpses of the tempo and intensity shown when they won the All-Ireland in 2012.Donegal will play the winners of Antrim and Fermanagh, in the Ulster SFC semi-final, and will fancy their chances of reaching another Ulster Final.
