first_imgWayne Rooney has been told he must leave Manchester United this summer by former Red Devils star Paul Parker. The United and England captain has struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho this season, making just 15 Premier League starts. He was left out of the starting line-up for Wednesday night’s Europa League final meeting with Ajax and came on for just in the final few minutes of the 2-0 win in Stockholm.United boss Mourinho insisted after the match that he would be ‘very happy’ if Rooney – the club’s all-time leading goalscorer – stayed on at the club next season. But, according to Parker, the 31-year-old has to quit Old Trafford.Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the ex-England full-back said: “If he wants to play football regularly, then he has to leave.“It is not about what Manchester United want to do. The ball has to be in his court.“The way he is – he wants to play football – he has to move on. He can’t just sit around and watch.“It is a difficult place to be, Old Trafford, when you have been there and had the glory he has had. To sit on the sidelines and watch it go on around you, it might make him feel a little bit bitter if he puts himself in that position.”last_img
